Waterproofing is a key challenge in a basement construction. On this project, Econekt and Izodom delivered a single-sided ICF solution – our first real-world application of this approach. The system allows the concrete core to remain exposed after the pour, enabling visual inspection of compaction and supporting the use of waterproof concrete as part of the overall waterproofing strategy.
This was particularly suited to a structure with significant below-ground wall area, without forming a fully enclosed basement.
By using a temporary internal shutter fixed to the ICF ties, we maintained a continuous external insulation layer from wall to slab, preserving thermal performance while allowing access to inspect the concrete core.
